Phytohemagglutinin Skin Test in Various Diseases.

Abstract
In an attempt to evaluate the availability of phytohemagglutinin(PHA) skin test as a method for delayed hypersensitivity, PHA skin test was measured in patients with various diseases.
1. The positivity for PHA skin test was 88.1% in normal control, and nonsurgical patients in general excluding malignancy was 62.2% and malignant group was 47.5%, which was lowest in positivity.
2. PHA positivity of non-surgical patients was 59.4% and that of surgical patients was 65.6%. There was no remarkable difference in positivity between these group, but their response rate was significantly reduced as compared with normal control group.
3. PHA positivity was 59.4% in the general patients while that of DNCB skin test was 77.3% which showed higher rate that of PHA skin test.
4. Although PHA reactivity has no significant correlation with absolute number of peripheral lymphocytes, it tended to increase, uupon the raise of percent rate of peripheral lymphocytes.
5. Correlation of PHA reactivity with C-reactive protein was that PHA positivity of CRP negative group was 62.5% and that of CRP positive group 53.3%.
